The game can be played with any number of players, however the ideal number is six to eight. Depending on the game, the number of cards in the deck and the number of cards shared by all players vary. For instance, stud poker is played with seven cards. Other poker variations involve fewer cards. Depending on the rules of the game, the game can be played with a single deck, a deck with two sets of aces, or a deck with three sets of aces.
